Modumela Lodge Logo

Modumela Lodge is situated approximately 68KM from Francistown along the main road to Bulawayo (Zimbabwe), in the North East District of Botswana.

Modumela Lodge is named after the abundant, magnificent white Syringa trees on the property. We would love to share our Resort with those who wish to be closer to nature, if only for a short while. Our "Big Five" includes: comfort, peace, relaxation, tranquillity and Mother Nature.

The Resort has recently been awarded a 2 star grading by the Botswana Tourism Organisation and offers a variety of activities and accommodation options.

PLEASE NOTE: We are situated in a very low risk malaria area. But, if you are planning on travelling extensively throughout Botswana please ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions.

We recently found a small ruins site (related to Great Zimbabwe ruins tribe) and had an archaeologist visit and give us information. The site is now listed as a national heritage site area and dates back to the 14th century. Guests are able to to view the site on a guided tour, but no unaccompanied visits are permitted as nothing may be removed or disrupted in this area. More exciting information still to come, we will keep you posted.

We have an active and ongoing non-indigenous bush clearing program in place as we endeavour to reclaim the natural flora's habitat in areas of the property that were once over-grazed cattle ranch land. The long term goal is to bring the land back to its original ecological condition and in doing so; we hope to be able to reintroduce more and more animal species that occurred here in the past. There are two dams on the property and numerous water holes have been created to encourage the wildlife to congregate in these areas. This also encourages the even utilization of vegetation.

Approximately 30 animal species have been recorded on the Resort, including Honey Badger, Impala, Kudu, Black-backed Jackal, Civet, Steenbok, Duiker, African Wild Cat, Caracal, Zebra, Reedbuck, Springhare, Scrub Hare, Wildebeest, Warthog, Eland and Brown Hyena.

Bird-watching is a very important part of life at Modumela. Over 176 species have been recorded on the Resort. A list of local birds and trees can be provided to guests who are interested.

Communication to the resort is via the cellular networks and an USAT Internet connection. Both these systems are erratic so please enquire with Management regarding the current status.

The local currency is the Botswana Pula and Thebe. 100 Thebe = 1 Pula. We accept Pula, RSA Rand, and English Pounds, which we will exchange at the rate of the day, plus a small commission to cover any sudden fluctuations. VISA and Master cards are accepted, subject to the cellular networks being operational.

All hotels, lodges, etc., in Botswana are required to pay the Department of Tourism a 'per head, per night' levy for accommodation. This levy, presently BWP10.00 per person per night; is not included in our tariff and will be added to your account. Please enquire at Reception about the stipulated amount.

They have travelled the world in their faithful Toyota Land cruiser for the past 32 years and hold the record for the longest ever vehicle journey. We count ourselves extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to spend time with this inspiring couple. Living the dream, living adventure, what greater gift could there be, what better way to celebrate life.

"We have had the pleasure of staying at Modumela Lodge for three nights. From the directions to the lodge, emailed to us by the management couple, to the fantastic reception received from all the staff, to the cleaning staff - absolutely fantastic. I will definitely return to Modumela. Well done."

Verity Gorman - July 2014

"Our first trip to Botswana. We were amazed at the observance of the law, no littering, obeying road regulations and general respect. Our visit to Modumela was stunning. The staff and facilities are superb and friendliness and helpfulness is especially noted. Thank you for making our stay so memorable."

Joyce & Mike Pelo - June 2014

"Did not use the kiosk and bar but having had a chance of just browsing around, it appeared to be an exceptional facility. The barman always expressed his friendliness, helpfulness and would always get out of his way to inform us more about the entire facility. Highly impressed. The kitchen staff were always at their best also in terms of friendliness and exposing their cooking and serving skills!!!! BRAVO!!!!

We were also impressed by the Managers of the facility. The manner in which they expressed their kindness and patience when we called on our way to the lodge from Gaberone until we arrived late in the evening. The manner in which they received and welcomed us was just a cherry on the cake!! Thank you very much for your unconditional courtesy and kindness."
